Is it a sex blog? A mommy blog? A bitch & moan blog? Um, . . . yeah. This is my place to be totally honest. In my real life, I feel like I'm always lying to somebody about something. Here, I am totally honest. Brutally so. However, no matter what bad things I say about my kids, I adore them and would never ever really, say, sell them on Ebay. The husband, often referred to as Spousehole, is another story. Oh yeah - if you are under 18 (or if you are my husband), please leave now.

Christmas Songs - Best & Worst

Two radio stations in my market have been playing Christmas music 24/7 for almost four $!^@!#(%^& weeks now. I cringe every time I accidentally press those presets on my car radio (that's right - I listen the RADIO. No satellite radio. The Girl put something in the CD player, so broadcast radio it is!). That's a full 16.6% of my FM presents dedicated to Christmas music.

So that got me to thinking . . .

What are your favorite and most hated Christmas songs? Religious, secular, whatever. What do you love and what do you hate?

Silent Night is my favorite one to sing at church on Christmas Eve. It's just a beautiful song.

My favorite "dumb" Christmas song is "I Want A Hippopotamus for Christmas" by Gayle Peevey:

My most hated? OMG, it's so hard to choose just one. I'm sick to death of 8 million versions of "The Christmas Shoes." Does everyone have to do a version of this song? Perhaps what really pisses me off is that it can still make me cry. I'm such a sucker.

Then there's Madonna's "Santa Baby." No, no, NO! It's just wrong. As is Paul McCartney singing "Wonderful Christmastime." Lennon and Ono doing "Happy Christmas." Oh, and we can't forget John Denver's "Please Daddy (Don't Get Drunk This Christmas)" (I couldn't find John's version, but here's another)

But my all time most hated Christmas song EVAH: It's a tie!!! Between these two -

Dominic the Italian Christmas Donkey

Little Drummer Boy

What are your favorite and least favorite Christmas songs?

Great idea for a post!

I like the Bob Hope and Marilyn Maxwell duet of "Silver Bells" in the BEST and HARDEST TO FIND Christmas Movie ever, "The Lemon-Drop Kid".

I guess you hate "Little Drummer Boy" but I also like Jars of Clay modernist take on it.

Dumbest and worst is ANYTHING by Bruce Springsteen.

I too love 'Silent Night'. Also 'O Come All Ye Faithful' (we taught our kids all three verses in Latin; I know - pathetically geeky).

I used to have a Danielbelle Hall Christmas album, on which she gave an absolutely searing, soulful rendition of 'O Holy Night' - gave me shivers every time I heard it.

I've always had a certain goofy fondness for The Chipmunks' Christmas Song. . .

But, I have to agree with you - for all of my utter, unnatural love of Paul McCartney and 99% of everything he ever wrote, 'Wonderful Christmastime' is just the most awful Christmas song in the history of the planet. . .

(This whole staying off blogs thing is just not working out for me)...

a) Yay I got a mention!
b) That was a really cute entry about Spousehole fixing the computer and you two agreeing to help each other out...warmed my heart.
c) Love "Carol of the Bells" and "O Come O Come Emmanuel" (I know, me the non-religious one too) and "Please Come Home" and "All I Want for Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey, "Santa Baby" by Eartha Kitt (and my guilty pleasure is "Santa Baby" by Willa Ford), "Song for a Winter's Night" by Sarah McLachlan, "The Christmas Waltz" by Peggy Lee, and "Merry Christmas Baby" by Bonnie Raitt and Charles Brown...oh and the entire Handel's Hallelujah--all hour plus of it
d) HATE "O Tannenbaum" for some reason, Emmy Rossum has an AWFUL version of "Carol of the Bells", and Cyndi Lauper did a duet with Frank Sinatra (a travesty personally) of "Santa Clause is Coming to Town"--it's like nails on a chalkboard to me

Whew...okay I'm really staying off blogs the next few days now...maybe :-)

Hmm, sorry, but I love all Christmas songs. I don't think I've ever heard one I didn't like. I love David Bowie & Bing Crosby's Little Drummer Boy. I love goofy Christmas songs. I love serious Christmas songs. I love 'em all. I really don't think you could name one I don't love. I am absolutely loving the 24/7 Christmas music on the radio. Not to mention, it is Christmas music 24/7 on my CD player too. I have quite the collection of Christmas CDs, and play them almost continuously from Thanksgiving to Epiphany.

It truly is the most wonderful time of the year.

Worst, hands down, that horrible, horrible Paul McCartney song. WTF was he thinking? And why is it played so much? It's awful! Like, throw the radio out the window awful.

Okay, I just watched the videos (tried to be good the whole day, but a girl needs a break right?)...what the hell is up with the Christmas donkey thing?! I'm bordering on mortified with that one...

And while I really enjoy the actual song of "The Little Drummer Boy" (even Bing and Bowie's version), that video really is awful...painfully so...those two should not act together (okay, no worries there since Bing has passed on, but whoa...)

Thanks to you I know have two new words in my lexicon....'Spousehole and Fucktard'.......sweet.

Don't be a consumer dummy.....Circle K coffee is just as good as Starfucks and half the price....you just have to make it yourself.

I think I would have liked David and Bing's little Drummer boy if that was the song they had really sung, but all they did was start it and then went on a tangent into la la land (a place where everyone gets along with each other - doesn't really resemble the real world).

My all time fave is Emerson Lake & Palmer's "I Believe In Father Christmas". Even if it is depressing.

I can not hear this drone. Everywhere. In every shopping mall, it makes me crazy and it destroys my Christmas feelings. It destroys my anticipation. It makes Christmas even more commercial and superficial.

Real Christmas songs people should sing with the family in special moments, not that this music is everywhere, stream out of the loudspeakers, even in the restroom.

But, hey, that’s may be America…

I love 'Rockin' around the Christmas Tree' by Brenda Lee, and the Chipmunks Christmas Song.

I get really sick of 'Silver Bells'.

I called Bat at work the other day, when put on hold before I got to him, George Michael was singing "Last Christmas I gave you my heart..." I can't get it out of my head now!

Haha...almost all of your 'most hated' are among my favorites. :)

I can't really speak as for my favorite....but the most hated/annoying..12 days of christmas....muppets version!! GRRR!! :)

I have to say my favorite is Harry Connick singing 'Must have been ol' Santa Claus'...

I am sure I have a least favorite but I can't think of it at the moment...

On another note, I burst into tears the other night for no apparent reason after hearing Vanessa William's singing "little drummer boy" on the radio. WTF? LMAO.
