Is it a sex blog? A mommy blog? A bitch & moan blog? Um, . . . yeah. This is my place to be totally honest. In my real life, I feel like I'm always lying to somebody about something. Here, I am totally honest. Brutally so. However, no matter what bad things I say about my kids, I adore them and would never ever really, say, sell them on Ebay. The husband, often referred to as Spousehole, is another story. Oh yeah - if you are under 18 (or if you are my husband), please leave now.

Mute Monday - Valentine's Day

Saint Valentine: Patron saint of marriage and plague. Coincidence? I think not.

Spousehole and I actually have plans for Valentine's Day, with a babysitter lined up and everything. It's nothing romantic, however. We are going to a dinner party where we'll be one of 4 couples. I have to bring an appetizer. If you have any ideas, let me know. (It needs to travel about 30 miles in bitter cold temperatures, so a cold to room temp appetizer is probably best.) I just read a recipe for figs poached in port, stuffed with cream cheese, and topped with prosciutto. I'm leaning toward that unless someone comes up with something better.
Valentine's Day is also my Dad's birthday, but we won't be celebrating it until the weekend.

It's another frickin' snow day here. It doesn't look so bad out to me, but I'm not trying to maneuver a giant school bus. Also it is bitter cold. It never got above 2 degrees (F) yesterday. They may have canceled school for that reason. They don't want kids walking to school or their bus stops when it is so cold. I don't remember that being a problem when I was a kid. (Next I'll be telling my kids how I walked 2 miles to school, uphill both ways, with holes in my shoes and only an old hand-me-down jacket with baked potatoes in the pockets to keep me warm. And then those baked potatoes were all I had to eat at lunch and I had nothing to keep my hands warm on the way home . . . )

Try telling my wife that the whole thing is a construct of the card/flower/candy/jewelry industry!

I'm sensing someone is Anti-Valentine. Actually a LOT of people are. Funny stuff.

Happy Mute Monday!

I actually ordered almost $100 worth of stuff to be delivered ( boxed and gift wrapped ) to HER place of employment this year. Nothing sexy or stupid just some
really nice PJs from VS. Maybe it will be a surprise.

I know nothing that will survive in your environment for the evening affair.

Love the story...never heard it with the potatoes.

2?! Damn that's a heatwave for us...which means you may be getting that weather in a couple days. We've been -12 reg temp, and around -35 with windchill. I only wish they would cancel school for us. Then again, I don't have to take care of children when it's like this out. :-)

Excellent take on the theme!

Here is one of my "go to" quick appetizers...

48 thin asparagus spears

2 1/2 ounces soft fresh goat cheese (such as Montrachet), room temperature
2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
1 tablespoons toasted pine nuts, chopped
1 tablespoon water
1 teaspoon grated orange peel
2 ounces thinly sliced prosciutto, cut into twenty-four 4x1-inch strips

Cut stalks from asparagus, leaving 3-inch-long tips. Cook asparagus tips in large pot of boiling salted water until just crisp-tender, about 1 minute. Drain. Transfer asparagus to paper towels and drain well.
Mix goat cheese, basil, pine nuts, water and orange peel in small bowl to blend. Season with salt and pepper. Spread scant 1 teaspoon filling over each prosciutto strip. Arrange 2 asparagus tips atop filling at 1 short end of prosciutto. Roll up prosciutto, enclosing base of asparagus. Press to seal. Place on platter. (Can be made 1 day ahead. Cover; chill.)

Happy MM!

I love your pics :) And I couldn't agree more!! My honey and I aren't doing anything special for that dumbass holiday. Every day with him is Valentine's Day, anyway *cheesy grin. There's no reason to contribute to the commercial hoopla or spend hours waiting for a table at a restaurant.. I'd rather just stay home and let him tie me up in the basement ;)

Happy MM! Thanks for the funnies!!

Like Christmas, Valentine's Day is another holiday to spend money. It really should be named Wife/Girlfriend Day. It seems that everything is geared towards the woman. Although I know we don't live in a perfect world, it shouldn't be that way.

A whole 2 degrees? Wow! That is just plain crazy. No wonder I'll never leave the South.
