Is it a sex blog? A mommy blog? A bitch & moan blog? Um, . . . yeah. This is my place to be totally honest. In my real life, I feel like I'm always lying to somebody about something. Here, I am totally honest. Brutally so. However, no matter what bad things I say about my kids, I adore them and would never ever really, say, sell them on Ebay. The husband, often referred to as Spousehole, is another story. Oh yeah - if you are under 18 (or if you are my husband), please leave now.

Abstinence-Only?

Am I the only one who thinks Sarah Palin might want to re-think her position supporting abstinence-only sex education? Apparently abstinence-only didn't work within her own family. Perhaps if her daughter had learned about birth control in case abstinence fell victim to a hottie hockey player, Sarah Palin wouldn't be becoming a grandmother in her early 40s.

Just a thought.

Yep, a little more communication probably would have been a good thing.

Unfortunately everyone makes mistakes at some point in their lives. Even parents with the best intentions, who teach their children the right way, still have kids who make mistakes. At least her daughter felt like she could tell her mother even knowing her mom's stance on the whole thing. And at least they didn't kill the unborn child.

I just hope this never happens with my son or daughter!

Word!

I just posted about this too.

She's going to marry him, poor girl... I'm guessing the hottie hockey player won't be looking so good after a decade's worth of Budweiser and weed.

I get so disgusted with the abstinence-only in the schools. Thankfully, at least we've managed to give all our kids information.

They may, of course, still screw up, they're human- but at least they have some knowledge!

Oh, but it's okay, right? Because there's going to be a wedding (shotgun if I ever saw one...and probably with more literal shotguns than the figurative colloquialism).

Because 17 year olds being forced into marriage because of a baby is *great* for family values and the sanctity of marriage, right?

I mean, I do hope they make it work if they're going to go for it, I just wish the impending marriage didn't smack so much of being forced into it.

Uh.... Yeah.

I think the biggest mistake of all is those kids marrying. Let's just through one more impulsive and life-changing decision on top of the other(s). It's working so well so far. *rolling eyes*

I think it is most interesting that when the political party that has spent so much of the last two decades touting their stance on family values and projecting their holier than thou image they then freak out that the public and the media would then point the finger back at them when they have the same situations arise that they have criticized so harshly for so long.

(Sorry for the run on sentence. It's early. I haven't had my coffee. And this issue really pushes my buttons.)

Well, as you know, we've got a bit of experience with this in our own family. . .

I think it's pretty fatuous to charge young Ms. Palin's untimely pregnancy to 'abstinence-only'. Lots and LOTS of teens who are as aware as they could be about 'safe sex' are getting pregnant; you know, stopping to 'put on the glove' is just so mood-killing, y'know? And besides, bareback feels SO much better. . .

Could Sarah Palin have done better at equipping her daughter to resist hottie hockey players? Could I have done better with my daughter? I'm sure it's 'yes' in both cases. Unfortunately, the culture we live in is incredibly unsupportive of premarital chastity (WAY more unsupportive than it was even in my day, which was already WAY more, shall I say 'libertine' than in my parents' day).

I was, and am, absolutely proud of my daughter for giving her baby girl the gift of life, and a family. And for standing up to the real-world consequences of her actions, instead of trying to flush it away. . .

And, can I say that I get the least bit annoyed by folks finger-wagging an out-of-wedlock pregnancy, just because the girl's mother is a (newly-)prominent Republican (in an election year)? When, if the girl had simply aborted, no one would even know (or, if they did, they'd approve). . .

There are two problems here as I see it....

1} Palin is kinda prudish in her thinking and

2} There is pressure to NOT take personal responsibility.

The reason she came out with it and the reason they are being so public with it...is for fear of getting caught!

I have found that doing anything out of fear does not work.

Ah, Politicians and women have the right to change their minds mid sentence....

And with her being both...

How the heck do you and the media maggotry who've brought this up KNOW FOR A FACT just what Governor Palin has said or still says to her daughter?

How do you know the young man and woman (they're 17 and 18 not 12) weren't educated on the basics?

Not wanting to spend scarce taxpayer's dollars on more extensive sex-ed programs is an entirely separate issue.

Money doens't grow on trees. Every teacher hired to put a condom on a banana means the School has less money to spend on trivial things...

Math? Science? Language Skills?

Math? Science? What are those? Bring out the condoms & bananas! LOL

Seriously, human behavior cannot be legislated, no matter how much we try to "help" those who make poor choices, there will always be people who make poor choices.

Question for the slogan-chanters.

Who is more likely to be teaching the Comprehensive Sex-Ed Programs you consider to be the Holy Grail at Public Schools in America?

1) A brilliant person who received a perfect score on their S.A.T, graduated top-of-their class at Harvard Medical School and then decided to make it their low-paid mission-in-life to teach Grade School Sex-Ed.

2) A Coach/Phys-Ed Teacher who didn't pay much attention at State U because he was sure he'd play in the NFL someday until shattering his knee. He didn't volunteer to teach Sex-Ed and during the laughable "certification training" he was compelled to go through, he mostly drew Xs and Os for a new way to throw a screen pass instead of listening. On Banana-Condom day, he eats the banana and makes a water-balloon out of the condom.

If there are any other hot hockey players like Levi up that want sex, but don't want to risk pregnancy, let me know. I'll fly right up and take of you boys. :)
