Is it a sex blog? A mommy blog? A bitch & moan blog? Um, . . . yeah. This is my place to be totally honest. In my real life, I feel like I'm always lying to somebody about something. Here, I am totally honest. Brutally so. However, no matter what bad things I say about my kids, I adore them and would never ever really, say, sell them on Ebay. The husband, often referred to as Spousehole, is another story. Oh yeah - if you are under 18 (or if you are my husband), please leave now.

Defending Palin on a couple counts

I'm not voting for her ticket, but I must defend Sarah Palin on a couple counts:

If one more person questions Sarah Palin's ability to be VP because she is a mother to five children, I think I'm going to smack them. Sure, mothering is a difficult job. So is being a dad and no one questions whether a man's children will distract him from an important job. No one asked if Robert Kennedy was fit to be President because he had 10.5 children (#11 was born after his death). I'm sure that Todd Palin is capable of handling the day-to-day child rearing while Sarah takes care of business. If they use a nanny or day care, so what? That's not the choice I made, but I don't begrudge anyone that choice. That's why it's a CHOICE. The majority of mothers in this country work these days, most out of necessity. Being a mom does not make Sarah Palin more or less capable of being Vice President.

Of course she supports her daughter's decision to have and rear her child. Anyone who thinks that Sarah Palin has any control over her daughter's decisions is an idiot. You cannot force a child to abort or place a baby for adoption. All you can do is acknowledge the child's bad decision-making (to risk pregnancy in the first place) and help them deal with the consequences of their actions. Anything less would be unthinkable to any caring parent. What was she to do - toss the child out onto the street? Disown her? Of course not.

But what is with naming her oldest after the sport season in which he was born (Track - and yes, she has said that is how the name was chosen)? I suppose it's good he wasn't born during girl's volleyball season. Can you imagine if he was named "Girl's Volleyball?"

Good point! I'm a single dad raising two kids without any financial and very little physical help from their biological mother. I think I do well doing so, while working a high stress full time career. I also agree with you about the names. Kinda odd, but then again I named one of mine after an All My Children character and the other after my favorite Jedi Knight....

So was she helping with homework when Trig was born?

Just curious.

And that whole issue about whether or not she can handle the job, while being a mother of five, is irritating the shit out of me for the exact same reasons.

Regardless of political leanings, it is supremely insulting to all women to assume a man can have a passle of kids and still do his job, but question whether or not a woman can. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

You got it right. Everyone knew they would crucify her. Strong women scare the hell out of liberals, the only reason Hillary didn't win. No shocker really strength is prominent in independent thinkers and can do people, weakness abounds in fearful dullards.

Great post.

"Spike" might be a better name than "Girl's Volleyball". Good on you for questioning the media maggotry on two of their 200 baseless misogynistic attacks.

I agree, how many children she has should not affect her ability to be VP. And yes, of course she should support her daughter. I do think it's funny however, that it doesn't all under the typical republican nuclear family.

Yeah, I was sorta wondering about where 'Trig' came from; conjures up images of a nursery decorated in all-triangular shapes, with sines and cosines marked off, or something. . .

Now, honestly, I consider myself mostly apolitical, but I agree that there is something bizarre about the folks that have so long derided the Right over the whole 'Family Values' thing, chiding Sarah Palin for not being focused enough on her family. . .

I agree with you on all points.

But on the other hand...

I find it ironic that Palin said she would respect her daughter's "decision" (read: choice?) when her own political platform would deny women's right to choose if they were in the exact same position.

I don't want her in office because I don't agree with her political views, not because she has a vagina.

I hope the Dems can stay on message and not get distracted by her gender... otherwise it's going to be another long winter, if you know what i mean.

I think 'Field' has a nicer ring to it. Or is that a girl's name?

*LOL* That reminds me of when I was discussing the trend of naming children after the place of their conception, with my parents of all people, and I cracked that my son would have been named "Lazyboy Recliner."

I agree to an extent.

I think everyone should lay off of her for the real personal stuff. People don't have to dig for dirt that damn hard!

Track? That's kind of a cool name actually.

I for one am thrilled with the VP choice. I think Palin is a very strong woman and proof that attractive women can play more roles in politics than the smiling, supportive wife of a politician like so many First Ladies.
I think her daughter's situation should have no impact on her career. It's not something in her control, and her daughter is certainly no worse than all the other teens in the country now.

Oh Biscuit, that's funny - MY son therefore should have been named "Green Leather Couch"!
[but he wound up being named for our beloved horse who died when I was 9 wks PG - don't worry, it's an Anglicized version, he's not named Seabiscuit!]

It's interesting, the only place I've actually heard anyone saying she shouldn't be VP beause she's a mother of five is the Fox Noise Channel and the right wingnut radio talk shows. And then only when they're foaming at the mouth about how it's wrong anyone would say something like that...when again, the only ones I heard say it are they themselves.

Doesn't anyone find it a bit hypocritical, though, that a previous VP candidate of this party derided a fictional tv character, Murphy Brown, because she got pregnant and wasn't married, but yet now they're perfectly fine with Palin's daughter doing the same thing?

I don't care what the daughter may or may not do with the baby, but it's the height of hypocracy for them to say it's okay now, when it wasn't before for them, ever.

No, I retract that. The height of hypocracy is telling the media to lay of Palin, personal attacks are unfair, and yet, where were they cries of unfairness when Obama was being called a Muslim, and ragged for not being patriotic enough, and his wife as well, wasn't "patriotic" enough. Those aren't personal attacks?

But I guess, when you can't run on the issues, you have to run on personal attacks, so it's not surprising that's all the Republicans are doing.

HUGS...

No one does question a man with children. Only if he has bastards. That's the only time they question him.

So you're right, that is big time sexist.
